Day 33
cold and more cold
Saturday, 21 February, 2004

today we decided to go around the city and see what we could find.

there was lots of fun things here and there, and tons of good food everywhere.

we had a pretty simple day, we spent it walking around the city, and stopping in different cafes and fun things like that. we went to a few of the different famous cafes in vienna, and then walking around the hofsburg complex.

the hofsburg complex is where the hapsburg family lived. they were the family that ruled over europe for quite some time. they were mainly a family that either married people off to other monarchy's or just happened to rule everything.

by the time we had walked around most of the complex, and maybe even before that, it was quite cold. so we ended up back at stephensdom about 30 to 45 minutes early for mass.

we picked mass tonight because it was in english, but it was a little different. of course the giant gothic church was cold, but the mass itself instead of saying the nicene creed, they said the apostles creed, the cantor didn't sing, but just spoke stuff, the chior, if you can call them that, was acompanied by a boombox type thing, and alot of the songs and responses were in a language that wasn't english, and for sure wasn't deutsch.

yet with all these differences, it was good to hear mass in english and actually understand the homily, and a little bit more of what was going on.

from there we just came back to the hostel and hung out and went to sleep again.
