the capitoline hill
the main hill of rome

this hill in antiquity is where the temple to the main gods of rome where located. from anywhere in rome you could see the temple atop this hill. it was also where all processions would end at, and where the most important religious cerimonies would be held. now it is home to the capitoline museums, which hold a large amount of roman art from all periods. the one sad part about it thought is that it is mainly things that were gathered from private homes of renissance art collectors and things of that nature. so that complete origin of most of the pieces is unknown.
