last night when we got home, while we were talking for hours, we decided that we would head off to the vatican today. it is still a bit chilly, but not to bad.
we walked right into St. Peters Square. which isn't really square at all. they still have the nativity up, but it is quite a large one and could be the reason why its still up.
not knowing quite where to go we went and asked some cool looking swiss gaurds and they told us how to get to the Vatican Museum. following the directions from the gaurds we went to the museum and walked around for what seemed like forever, but was only two and a half hours. we went to the Sistine Chapel and looked at the ceiling for a while. talked about the different panels and the stories that were painted there. we went throught the Raphel rooms and saw alot of his paintings as well.
after we had seen a good portion of things in the museum, we headed back to the Basilica. we walked inside and it is enourmous. giant statues all over the place of the different popes, different saints, and all sorts of things like that. alters for all the sacraments, just so much that it was amazing.
we walked through the crypts of the popes and then climbed to the top of the Copula, which is the main dome, and could see all over rome.
when we were all done we came back home, and warmed up in the apartment, and then when we got hungry went down to Campo de Fiori for dinner. We sat in a little restaurant and ate Italian style. We had bread, and a first and second course, and wine to drink with it all.
