Day 20
lets go out everybody
Sunday, 8 February, 2004

sundays are typically a quiet day in rome. you know the whole its a catholic city and so everything is pretty much closed. or at least thats what its like in the morning.

we were planning on going to church this morning as we decided that we would do every sunday while here in rome, but seeing as in how we are still learning italian, we could use some paractice with our reading and comprehension. we thought that mass would be at 9:30 at the church that we decided to go to today, but in actuallity it was at 10:30.

so we went to the cafe had some breakfast, and then from there went home to change before going out walking and shopping for the day. it was such a nice day that we figured we would just spend it outside.

and that's what we did, we went to the spanish steps today, and actually explored the steps themselves, and went in the church at the top of them. also looked around at some of the really fun drawings and paints that all the local vendors were selling.

but before we got there, we had stopped into united colors of beneton and got leanne some cool shirts, a pair of jeans, and some sunglasses, while mike got a cool pair of pants, a hoodie, and an umbrella.

after the shopping and the church visit, we decided to go get some lunch, mike really wanted some fries so we were just going to go to the mcdonalds up in piazza di spanga, but apparently everyone else in the city of rome thought that it would be a good idea to do the same. the line was all the way to the door.

so we started walking back home to stop into a different one. we walked passed the pantheon, and stopped into the mcdonalds over there, which was just as packed.

we walked home and walked through piazza navona, which was quite large and very cool. it had some cool fountains, and in this piazza a whole bunch of people acting like statues. gold and silver and marble ones. we saw them all over the city, but some of the best ones were in this piazza.
